The Costumiers’ Fantasy Masquerade Ball is a premier costume event held annually in Rotorua, New Zealand. Organized by the Costumiers’ New Zealand Charitable Trust, this immersive weekend celebrates fantasy, creativity, and community through a series of themed events, culminating in the grand masquerade ball.
The ball invites guests to don elaborate costumes inspired by themes such as the 1986 cult classic Labyrinth, Victorian-era elegance, steampunk, and time-travel narratives. The evening begins with “The Promenade” at 6:30 PM, featuring light nibbles, a cash bar, and photo opportunities. At 8:00 PM, two themed ballrooms open: the Labyrinth Ballroom, offering dance tunes from the 1950s to present with a focus on cult movie tracks, and the Time Travellers’ Ballroom, featuring traditional dances like the waltz and polka .
The weekend also includes other events such as the “Creatures of Atlantis” cocktail party, a craft market and costume exhibit at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre, and the “Big Wigs & High Hats” high tea at the Prince’s Gate Boutique Hotel . Tickets are available for individual events or as a combo package, with prices ranging from $80 to $230, depending on the selection and purchase date .
